Back Into The Thick Of It...

Been a while since i last posted but i am back into my project after moving home over the easter holidays. things are going ok but running a bit behind schedule, i have some generative art working and and trying to incorporate sound control at the moment, if anyone is handy with flash media server some help would be greatly appreciated!

Brain Wave! I Waved Back

I have been thinking "what the hell am i going to base my three generative art pieces on?" i think it is the thought of having three screens to fill, anyway i want them to be connected really and had the great idea of creating a narrative of the 'circle of life' if you will... by that i mean one screen will represent the 'birth' of life the second screen will represent 'life' and the third will represent 'death'. together they will allow a visual narrative to be played out on the standalone machine. (Narrative - thats so coming from the dissertation, got it fused on my brain!)

Anyway its still a work in progress but i am really liking the idea, it would give a great spectrum of visuals.

Inspiration Comes At Strange Times

Whilst at work last night i noticed some of the postcards we sell, particularly the designs on them and began to daydream off thinking about my Major (why do you always have great ideas at work?).

Anyway i bought the postcards and are using them as a kind of reference / inspiration.

(Above) I'm really liking the illustrator type look to this image, i particularly like the turtle, he is pretty cool, i have been thinking about volume from the microphone could make the turtle swim in Aurora perhaps.

(Above) Again i love the style, i particularly like the seahorses, they're pretty cool.

(Above) I really really like the notion of autumn in this image, it has a great sense of life to it.

(Above) I like the simplicity of this image, i modified the colours from the original postcard as to add some fresh colour.

(Above) Again a really great image with a sense of nature and life to it.

Screen Shot (Gonna Pull Through)

I decided to post a couple of screen caps from the 3D mockup David Mannouch did for me for my Minor. The Mockup is designed to show how i envision Aurora if time and money were no issue and i had a place to display it.

The above image is to show the type of visuals which will be projected onto the space the user inhabits. The user will stand below the projected light so as to give the illusion of 'appearing' visuals.

The above image is to show the array of projectors which will be used to project to the three 'Auroras'

Whilst being my ultimate vision pretty much all the elements of this mockup will make it into the project, just wont be as neatly set up.

Hopefully this gives you all a little insight into the vision of my project.

Ugh

Ok so ever felt hungry but didnt want to eat? so you eat then you dont enjoy it? Dissertation is currently taking its toll and i am taking a couple of minutes out to write this whilst holding off the the Dissertation i have been working on ALL DAY... Ugh

DATS The Way...

Had to take the DAT recorder back this morning, annoying, but it was a good chance to do some foley sound recording and got some good effects locked down, just could have done with more time with the DAT, if only they were cheaper i'd just get one.

Not Just Aurora...

I am involved with two other projects for fellow students Meryem Brook and David Mannouch. On Monday i am picking up a DAT recorder from Uni to get started on recording some sound effects for Meryem's 'Story Soup' Project. Will start on collecting data for David at a later date and will blog about it nearer the time...

A Little More About Aurora And This Blog...

This blog is intended to document the production process of my major project 'Aurora' for my Interactive Media Production degree at Bournemouth University.

Inspired by the 'Northern Lights' and the good old Nintendo DS with its great microphone integration 'Aurora' is a generative art piece which allows users to manipulate visuals with sound interaction.

Aurora will utilise Flash Media Server. This will be its unique selling point.

'Aurora' will run on multiple machines with microphones attached to each. Each machine will capture user generated sound and interpret those sound levels to affect generative art on screen. The art will also be projected.

The use of Flash Media Server is to allow each machine to send its sound levels to a sort of server machine. The idea behind the server machine is to create art from the other machines sound levels, so the more interaction that occurs with the standalone machines the more art is created by the 'server'

All will become much clearer as production begins...
